The following photo sets demonstrate points in time along the complex process of sculpture making.
The journey from amorphous clay to patinaed bronze is long and requires patience.
The story of three sculptures
Wernher Von Braun
This sculpture was commissioned by Missile Defense Agency to memorialize the contribution of Dr. Wernher Von Braun to the space program. This sculpture was the first casting done in the Lowe Mill studio, right after I had started moving in and before all the tools and equipment used in bronze casting and chasing were brought to the mill studio. The Rubber and epoxy molds and the bronze casting was done at the Lowe Mill studio, but the sculpting and chasing were done at my home studio, hence the bust on the tailgate before and after chasing. Now the studio is filled up with tools of the trade and a sculpture is made, start to finish, in the Lowe Mill Studio.

Chimera
This sculpture is a fun take on Medieval sculptures that decorated the outsides of some Cathedrals. While a gargoyle is a functional sculpture whose raison d'etre was to direct water from the walls, other sculptures were used to add weight (structural purpose) and give instruction in religious teachings or just be decorative sculptures in their own right.

Kayla
Kayla is a portrait sculpture. Kayla was a body builder at the time she modeled so her pose is one of presentation - she is presenting herself to the world. Kayla is also the first sculpture to be sculpted and molded on the sculpture positioner I made in Feb 2015. That greatly aided in sculpting the hands and making the mold, as the sculpture could be positioned to best advantage.
